Ovolo group is throwing open the doors to its new Amphlett House in Melbourne’s CBD from Wednesday, 17 November.
Located on the corner of Little Bourke Street and Amphlett Lane, the House is next to Ovolo’s Laneways hotel, in the heart of Melbourne’s restaurant and theatre district, and joins celebrated eateries such as Longrain, Hochi Mama, Grossi Grill and Florentino.
Amphlett House is the latest addition to the Ovolo’s cutting-edge collection, and something of a change from its usual restaurants and bars, ushering a 120-pax venue ranging exceptional drinks and elevated pub classics in a “welcoming and upbeat” atmosphere.
The beverage program champions a strong focus on locally brewed, grown and sourced product – led by Ovolo’s creative beverage director, Andrea Gualdi, who boasts a stellar background in cocktail bars such as Maybe Sammy, named Best Bar in Australasia 2021 by World’s 50 Best Bars.
Gualdi is touting a drinks list that will tap into “a new way of drinking” and include with a variety of tipples on tap, including wines and a unique selection of handcrafted cocktails, beyond the local craft beers.
The team worked with a food scientist to create an interpretation of the classic cocktail list, to ensure sustainable and consistent product with the quality of leading bars. These include signatures such as the Wattle Seed Negroni, Finger Lime Daiquiri, and Eucalyptus Smoked Margarita. The first cocktail on tap will be a Coffee & Orange Americano.
“Our aim is to bring the same level of quality you’d find in Australia’s best bars to the drinks offering at Amphlett House,” says Gualdi.
“We are lucky to have access to some incredibly progressive Australian and international producers, both in the alcoholic and non-alcoholic categories, and we look forward to showcasing quality, local produce in a welcoming setting.”
The food menu will be driven by Ovolo’s director of kitchen operations and celebrated Melburnian chef, Ian Curley, with support from head chef Ben Green, for an “elevated pub dining” food concept highlighting Victorian produce.
“I’ve loved this part of Melbourne for many years and am looking forward to serving up humble fare with big flavours in the Paris end of town,” expressed Curley.
“There is nothing pretentious happening here … we welcome you to share a meal with family and friends or grab a quick bite with your better half.”
The interior design of Amphlett House comes from award-winning interior design and architecture studio Luchetti Krelle, which unleashed a motif based in ‘Memphis nostalgia’ that brought interpretations of colour and energy seen in timber panelling, green leather booths and geometric mirrors.
