One of NSW’s largest pub operators, the O’Hara Hotels Group has recently benefited from strategic partnerships with major industry suppliers Tabcorp and Quantaco.
OHG owns and operates pubs throughout metro and regional NSW, counting a suite across Sydney, as well as in Orange, Wagga Wagga, Young, Nowra, Wollongong, Rutherford and Salamander Bay. Group principals are Dan and Sean O’Hara, Andrew Glaister, Jarad Kelly and Nicholas Quinn.
Leveraging its position as a Marquee Partner, the Group recently joined TAB’s Amanda Budden and Cathy Nigro at CommBank Stadium to announce a new exclusive three-year partnership.
“Every day our teams strive to provide customers with a great experience in our hotels – whether it is enjoying a drink, a great meal or a punt on the TAB,” offered Dan O’Hara.
“Having TAB as our exclusive wagering partner, is an extremely important part of our day-to-day pub operations and the future growth of our business.”
OHG will collaborate with Tabcorp at selected venues on an investment in vision technology showcasing the best in local and international racing on SKY Racing that the companies believe will lift the customer experience. OHG stands to take advantage of TAB’s range of incoming enhancements and offers.
“We are the only wagering company that offers the complete omnichannel wagering and entertainment experience for venues,” champions Brenden Varcoe, Tabcorp GM racing industry and venues.
“Our new offering is innovative, fresh and presents a new experience for customers which we are really excited about.”
The partnership with OHG follows similar announcements between the wagering brand and Iris Capital in late 2023 and Laundy Hotels in May.
Separately, having organically grown over decades, OHG – like many groups – faced significant challenges with inconsistent and disjointed processes and reliance on manual spreadsheets across its venues.
These issues made it difficult to manage cash flow and led to a lack of visibility and understanding of overall financial performance and how well each venue was performing. This ultimately hindered the ability to make informed business decisions.
The Group opted to adopt part of the Quantaco platform: Cashup.
It has helped transform the management from old-school spreadsheets to a completely digital process. Doing this has given them access to a tailored hospitality platform and experts to help them embed the technology, which the O’Haras say has been “a game-changer” for OHG.
“Even though the beginning was a bit of a challenge, as we had to get used to a whole new system, the support and training from Quantaco was second to none,” says Sean.
Transitioning from manual spreadsheets to a fully digital environment made possible the implementation of a standard approach to the end of day cashup process across the group. This helped align processes and reduce manual effort, ultimately improving the accuracy and security while also freeing up staff time for other activities.
OHG has also eliminated paper-based systems, backed by an audit trail and sign-off feature in the platform, which had the multiple benefits of fortifying accountability frameworks, ensuring tighter controls, improving security and providing complete visibility over financial performance, which they say has been “revolutionary” for the business.
“Now, everything is digital and perfectly recorded … no more paper!” proclaims Sean.
“We’ve got all of our pubs operating in a standard way with an accurate process to capture the revenue for the day.”
