NEWCOMER SNAPS UP SEQ’S OLDEST PUB

This month Queensland’s historic Inglewood Hotel has found a buyer, in a newcomer to the pubs industry.

The purchaser, a Toowoomba ophthalmologist who heads up Tyson Acquisitions, was looking to diversify interests in the area when he saw the 94-year-old pub on the market.

Inglewood is a community of around 1K residents, established in 1862 on the banks of the Macintyre brook, roughly midway between Goondiwindi and Warwick, around three hours west of Brisbane. Once a significant tobacco producing area, the more recent focus has been on sheep and cattle grazing.

Now the sole watering hole in town, the current two-storey pub was built in 1931 but is thought to be one of the oldest in South-East Queensland.

The seller, experienced hotelier and international pilot Tom Menogue completely renovated it prior to the sale. Last year reported annualised revenue was $2.3 million.

Tyson Acquisitions plans to add Airbnb-style accommodation as they continue to service the local community.

Sale of the Inglewood was brokered by SGW Hotels’ Scott Williams, for north of $3 million.

Williams said the venue serves a solid community base, providing a “nice bar and dining area”, gaming operation with ten machines, a large beer garden, “and all the attributes for your outdoor entertaining”.
