Australian Venue Co has revealed another major renovation of a landmark Queensland pub, bringing a stylish new look and revised name to Nundah’s Royal.
Opened in 1888 in Brisbane’s northside as the Royal English Hotel, in recent years the pub has been known as The Royal.
Part of the Hotel had to be closed for the $1.1 million refurbishment, but it has now reopened and assumed the revised moniker of the Royal Hotel.
The renovation, led by architect Mel Porter Design, pays homage to the heritage of the 135-year-old landmark, retaining its original decorative cornicing and exposed brick, blending heritage architecture with modern flair.
A refreshed bistro and terrace seats up to 120 patrons, equipped with new floors and furnishings and adorned with greenery. The new menu by executive chef Dylan Kemp offers modern takes on pub classics and house specialties, such as Moreton Bay bug rolls with burnt butter, and grain-fed char-grilled beef skewers with miso and rice bubbles.
Sport fans are set for the big games with five big TV screens in the new public bar and alfresco area.
Upstairs has been transformed to become 200-person entertainment space Royal Quarters, with its own bar and booth seating. It was designed to host live entertainment not limited to bands and comedy nights.
Every week brings a line-up of events starting with Tuesday trivia and live entertainment in Royal Quarters. Thursday is comedy night, on Friday comes piano bar sessions, there are more gigs on Saturday, and Sunday brings Ball Out Bingo.
As always, AVC installed its Local Heroes program at the Royal, selecting charity partner Mandate, which advocates for men’s health and prostate cancer research. The commitment sees $1 donated from every Parmi sold each Wednesday.
AVC’s venue manager Naomi Franklin says they’ve been eager to open the doors again.
“It is a historic pub and a space for the entire family to enjoy no matter the occasion, with weekly entertainment and an exciting new menu and interiors.”
