Last week restauranteur Ben Walsh announced the sale of Surf Parade venues Miss Moneypenny’s and Fat Freddy’s to Anthony Moreton’s Queensland-based group.
The new owner of the multimillion-dollar venues, Moreton Hospitality, has likewise announced its plans for the two spaces, which are slated to open 1 December.
Miss Moneypenny’s will be reimaged into a modern Australian/Mediterranean fine-dining venue, while Fat Freddy’s will be transformed into the Beach Hotel Broadbeach, hailing the return of the precinct’s eponymous local pub.
Lance Burrows, Moreton Hospitality COO told the Gold Coast Bulletin the company leapt at the new opportunity.
Moreton Hospitality, stemming from the Anthony Moreton Group, originally bought the Beach Hotel Broadbeach in 2013, prior to the area’s development in 2015, when it was demolished in favour of a 35-storey redevelopment.
“We’re excited to bring back the Beach Hotel Broadbeach and restoring the hotel to its original name,” Burrows said.
Moreton Hospitality’s goal for the pub is to reconnect with the locals, returning the space to a laid-back oceanside vibe serving great food and drinks.
The new offering, Cora, while still offering elevated dining has redirected its menu to fall in line with its customer’s desires.
“The new venue is community-centric, welcoming families with children for the first time,” Burrows explained.
The new owners assured that despite the changes, all key staff will remain on board, including head chef and AGFG award-winner Tapos Singha, who is looking forward to the new direction.
The Anthony Moreton Group also owns Stradbroke Island’s Beach Hotel, which will undergo a major refurbishment next year.
