Homicide detectives have charged a man over the murder of another man stabbed outside a Victorian pub with his wife, after a celebration.
Clint Allen, aged 38, was with a group of people including his wife, Bek, for the occasion of her 37th birthday.
At some point after midnight they emerged from the Criterion Hotel of Sale, where it is alleged they were set upon by a stranger for reasons unknown, and Clint Allen was stabbed.
The group immediately called emergency services, and police administered first aid until paramedics could arrive, but the man died at the scene.
Investigations led Victoria Police officers to arrest 20-year-old Spencer Shumski on Sunday evening, charging him with murder in relation to the incident.
Shumski was already on bail for unrelated matters, and was remanded to appear before Sale Magistrate’s Court.
On Monday he faced Court, where it was revealed he was already due to appear in court the following day over weapons charges.
The would-be musician, going by stage name NP Benzey, appeared by video. The magistrate quickly revoked his bail on the earlier charges, which it’s thought will now be consolidated into his next court appearance, set for September.
Sale is a city of around 16k residents, roughly 200 kilometres east of Melbourne. In the wake of the murder some have come out saying the main drag has become unsafe at night, with local Tez Leeson recounting a personal encounter.
“I walked home from work the other night at 11pm and there was crazies swearing and waving knives at me in Raymond St, near the banks.”
Clint Allen is survived by his wife and stepdaughter Makala Lister, who is expected to give birth to her first child in coming months.
