LOG CABIN GETS TOUGH ON SECURITY

A rash of reports and bad reviews against the security at the Log Cabin in Penrith has prompted some decisive action, and a swift replacement.

Late March conversations on social media cried no joy on security at the western Sydney pub, said to be heavy-handed and abusing their authority.

Emma H posted she had heard stories from others about security “goading, deliberately targeting and using excessive force” on patrons.

Jessica D posed that the guards “are now very rough and unethical”.

An online petition was established 30 March, alleging inappropriate behaviour by the guards. So far it has garnered 319 signatures, aiming to get 500 people to sign on.

Penrith police confirmed they are investigating the allegations and asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.

“The Security Licensing and Enforcement Directorate (SLED) and Licensing Police from Nepean Police Area Command have been advised of alleged incidents involving security guards at a Penrith licensed premise,” said a NSW Police spokesperson.

The Laundy Hotels group opened the newly-built Log Cabin in early 2022, on a site that had housed a pub since 1826.

The group was quick to quell concerns, issuing a statement on 1 April.

“We have been made aware of a number of complaints by our patrons against the venue’s contracted third-party security company.

“We have taken immediate action and have appointed a new third-party security company.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and guests is always our top priority, and we have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour in our venue.

“We are committed to ensuring a welcoming and secure environment for everyone.”
