Harvest Hotels has announced its successful acquisition of Wagga Wagga’s William Farrer Hotel.
This is the latest regional hospitality venture for the group. It follows the revival of Tamworth’s oldest pub, The Courthouse, and purchase of Brady’s Railway Hotel Albury, both in late 2020, and purchase of the Milestone Hotel in Dubbo in May this year.
Harvest director Fraser Haughton says he and partner Chris Cornforth have been waiting for the right opportunity to snap up a pub in the precinct.
“Wagga is a growing town, it’s economically diverse, has a great pub market and has all the services you would expect for a major regional centre. We’re thrilled.”
The group takes over the William Farrer this week, and plans to get to know the hotel and the locals, continuing business as usual for a time, with plans to “refresh and develop” the pub in the future.
Outgoing vendor David Barnhill will stay on for a time to assist with the transition, and the new owners stress patrons can be assured Wagga institution the Super Punters Club will remain.
“We want to have the best pubs in the best towns and the William Farrer Hotel is exactly that,” furthered Haughton.
“It’s a community pub that has been run extremely well by the Barnhill family for over 20 years and we look forward to continuing the legacy.”
