HALLMARK TAKES THE HEART OF BRISBANE

Queensland-based Hallmark Group has added the iconic Lord Alfred Hotel in the literal and proverbial heart of Brisbane to its growing portfolio.

Gracing the corner of legendary Caxton Street and Petrie Terrace, the historic Lord Alfred was established in 1868, finding its name to honour the royal visit to Brisbane by Queen Victoria’s son Alfred, in February of that year.

The large-format local has earned a reputation for the celebration of sport, being just a few blocks from Lang Park (Suncorp Stadium). In 2018 it underwent a $2 million refurbishment, upgrading its six separate bars, kitchen and gaming area, and eight upstairs rooms.

Hallmark Group was formed in 2014, pledging a goal to operate “unique” venues. The Lord is Hallmark’s second on Caxton Street, joining the legendary Lefty’s Music Hall, purchased in March.

The previous operator at The Lord had temporarily closed it amid pandemic conditions, but it has now been reopened by Hallmark, taking the keys in time to welcome patrons for last Wednesday’s triumph by the maroons.

“The Lord Alfred is an iconic and historic venue in one of Brisbane’s best entertainment precincts. When the opportunity arose to add it to our ever-expanding portfolio, Hallmark Group jumped on it,” explained a spokesperson for the Group.

“We look forward to welcoming Brisbanites back to Caxton Street — just in time for the State of Origin Game III decider!”
