The New South Wales government is offering 5,000 free Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) courses, in recognition of the demand for labour in the hospitality industry.
An announcement by Service NSW notes that there are “currently lots of jobs available in hospitality” and that most of these jobs require current RSA competency.
Attaining an RSA certificate is the first step to “enable you to gain the skills needed to enter this in-demand industry”.
The goal is to attract both people considering a career in hospitality and people currently employed in another capacity, who are also able to apply for the fee-free training.
To be eligible candidates must be:
- aged 17 years or more
- be an Australian/New Zealand citizen, resident or humanitarian visa holder living or working in NSW
The course is offered through 29 providers, at 29 locations, and is completed in less than one day, scheduled for around six hours to complete (discounting any breaks).
This program is not available for anyone who has previously held an RSA competency card, which has expired.
Instead, refresher RSA courses will also be available free of charge until the end of June, for people whose certification has expired within the past two years, or will expire before 30 June.
Enrolments are taking place until 30 April, and training must be completed by 30 June, 2022.
