EXPANDING LOCAL OPERATOR CATCHES CESSNOCK’S RAILWAY HOTEL

Continuing the shake-up in Hunter Valley hospitality, the Railway Hotel in Cessnock has been sold to a local, diversifying operator.

The two-storey Railway Hotel features a public bar, commercial kitchen and bistro, popular children’s playground, ten accommodation rooms plus a licensee’s apartment upstairs, as well as a small bottleshop, barbershop and other facilities on the ground floor.

It resides on a large, 1,176sqm corner of Vincent Street, Cessnock – widely regarded to be the gateway to the world-famous Hunter Valley, Australia’s oldest wine region, boasting around 1,800-Ha of vineyards and over 150 wineries.

Cessnock is a vibrant, tourism-focused city around 52 kilometres from Newcastle, or 160 northwest of Sydney.

The Railway has been bought by Patrick Boonsoon, who already owns several proximate Asian restaurants, for north of $1 million.

It is Boonsoon’s first pub, and he reportedly plans to continue operations as they are, but with a long-term view of expanding offerings across all departments.

The vendor was the Lantry Family’s Boss Investment P/L. The Lantrys have held hotel assets throughout NSW for decades, but bought the Railway less than 12 months ago.

They report being happy with the price achieved in the sale, through Manenti Quinlan & Associates, in conjunction with Moore and Moore Real Estate, and “we are pleased to have met [it]”, says Deane Moore.

“The Hunter region is extremely sought-after, with continued demand for quality properties,” added MQ’s Leonard Bongiovanni.
