EVICTED PATRON RETURNS WITH CHAINSAW

A disgruntled patron evicted from the famed Daly Waters pub later returned with a chainsaw and bad intentions.

NT Police watch commander Sonia Kennon said pub owner Tim Carter called the police around 11:30pm, on 20 May.

A 44-year-old man had been cut off for intoxication around 4pm, and Carter said he returned a few times and was “just being a fucking nuisance”.

He returned again around 11.30pm, professing “shit was about to go down” and starting up a chainsaw.

The Daly Waters is nearly 600 kilometres south-east of Darwin, but one of the Territory’s most famous outback watering holes, long known for its vast collection of bras hung above the bar by visiting females.

There were reportedly close to 200 people in the pub at the time, and police say a 48-year-old man was injured, suffering a compound leg fracture. He was transported to hospital.

Angry patrons are said to have wrestled the man to the ground, and Carter says he “got a bit of a touch-up” before being detained by staff and patrons until police arrived, having to come nearly 170km.

“One of the patrons successfully disarmed the male and he was detained until police members from Mataranka arrived,” said Kennon.

The chainsaw-wielding man was arrested and will likely undergo assessment at the Daly Waters health clinic before charges are laid.
