Warmer weather is producing the customary bloom of new brews, forecasting drinking trends for the approaching summer.
Modus Brewing has launched Modus Cerveza, billed as a crisp, easy-drinking classic beer, inspired by coastal Mexico and “the perfect thirst quencher” for sweltering summer days.
Modus Cerveza is 4.2% ABV, featuring citrus-forward hops and traditional Mexican ingredients, with a crisp citrus finish. Like most Cervezas, it is best served with a fresh lime wedge.
Cervesa simply means “beer” in Latin languages and is a common style in the Americas. In light of more USA brewers releasing craft Cervezas to the Australian market, champion Australian brewer Modus has become the first Australian brewery to launch its own style of Cerveza into its core range at this scale.
The brew has the potential to suit both the craft consumer after a quality, easy-drinking option, and the everyday drinker looking for an entry into the craft market.
“We couldn’t be more excited to launch Modus Cerveza as we see restrictions easing across the country, with a renewed sense of celebration and thirst for life amongst Aussies,” says Jaz Wearin, co-founder and owner of Modus Brewery.
“This summer is about taking it easy and coming together with friends, enjoying that relaxed and laid-back coastal lifestyle. We’re bridging a new evolution of Mexican beer to Aussie drinkers.”
Furthering the summer flavours, #1 GABS champion BentSpoke Brewing Co. has this month released its ‘Drifter’ series Hop Juice in cans.
Hop Juice is a JPA: a Juicy Pale Ale, made using Sabro, Ekuanot, HBC 472 and CryoPop hops. These add tropical and coconut flavours, and are blended with tangerine and mango fruits to create a real summer fruit salad in a glass.
Hop Juice is part of BentSpoke’s Drifter series, which it says will “drift in and out throughout the year” to suit the seasons.
It is available in cans nationwide, starting November.
Newcomer to the Australian shores, Athletic Brewing Co says it has proof that “you can have a drink without the added hangover or morning regret”, or as its name implies, without sacrificing health and fitness, either.
The company says it is here to be that drink, releasing its award-winning beers, the Upside Dawn Golden Ale and the Run Wild IPA.
Athletic Brewing Co’s core range of non-alcoholic brews have developed a market with health-conscious people around the world, with backers including Lance Armstrong and David Chang.
Addressing the same trend, the innovative and multi-award-winning Big Drop Brewing Co. has launched its first seasonal beer into the Australian market.
Big Drop Brewing produces a non-alcoholic range through a pioneering and cutting-edge process called Reduced Amylase Brewing, which allows beer to be fully-fermented while remaining under 0.5% ABV, and able to be classed ‘non alcoholic’. The process is said to be superior to extracting alcohol, as it vastly improves the aroma, flavour, and mouthfeel of the finished product.
The company was launched by Rob Fink and James Kindred in 2016 as the world’s first brewery dedicated to non-alcoholic beer.
Poolside DDH IPA is a double dry hopped IPA, with tropical flavours and a strong hint of mango. It joins Big Drop’s range in Australia, the Pine Trail Pale Ale, Uptown Lager, and released this year, Galactic Milk Stout and Paradiso IPA.
The release follows a sweep of wins at the World Beer Awards, and Big Drop suggests Poolside is the perfect summer craft brew option “for those looking to enjoy a thirst-quenching beer but skip the booze”.
This is the first non-alcoholic beer brand seasonal brew launched in Australia. Big Drop contract brews through brewing partners, with Australian products made in Goulburn.
