AVC UNVEILS ANOTHER $6M OF LOCAL RENOS

Australian Venue Co (AVC) has invested north of another $6 million renovating Queensland suburban locals, expanded and designed with locals in mind.

This week the Salisbury Hotel in south Brisbane re-opened after a $1.6 million renovation.

Recognising an uptick in younger families and students moving into the area, AVC has added a new open beer garden and refreshed sports bar, as well as refurbished accommodation.

The new beer garden will allow punters to celebrate Queensland weather all-year-round. It caters to 108 people, across two sections flowing from the bistro and the sports bar. The new sports bar will be showing all the big games, live and loud, on big screens.

There are now weekly events and specials, such as kids eat free on Mondays, Trivia night, Tradie Club, and live music Fridays and Sundays.

The Salisbury will be supporting local charity TAG 5 in its Local Heroes program, enhancing the lives of people with a disability, by donating a dollar from the sale of every parmy sold on Wednesdays, every week.

A ‘Launch Weekend’ will be held from Friday, 29 April to Sunday, 1 May, offering the likes of free chicken wings, Tradie Club giveaway, balloon artist and face painter for the kids, and live music all weekend.

Re-opened the following day was the Boomerang Hotel, of Mackay, after its $2 million renovation.

There is a revitalised bistro and new grill menu, refreshed gaming room, expanded beer garden, and new sports bar with TAB facilities and screens playing all the main events “live and loud”.

As the renovation is unveiled, work has moved on to the Boomerang’s 26 accommodation rooms, which will see a facelift over the next three months.

The Boomerang supports Ronald McDonald House Charities North Australia, through its Local Heroes Program, donating a dollar from the sale of every parmi, every Wednesday.

A ‘Welcome Weekend’ will also be held 29 April – 1 May, heralding a Tradie Club re-launch and free ‘Pimp my BBQ’ event, lucky door prizes, free roving chef snacks, free kids’ eats, entertainment and face painting, and live music all weekend.

Next to reopen will be Dunwoody’s Hotel of North Cairns, slated for 14 May.

It has been through a major $2.5 million transformation, introducing a new beer garden, as well as a completely revamped bistro, sports bar and gaming room.

The renovated bistro seats 150 guests. The new outdoor space has an indoor-outdoor bar and shaded dining, with two zones and a kids’ play area, catering for social crowds and family groups.

There is also a new stage in the bistro, for entertainment throughout the week, including weekly trivia and bingo, party bands on Friday nights, soloists and duos on Saturdays, and soulful jazz and blues to chill out Sundays. And every month, there will be Thursday night Drag Trivia.

Dunwoody’s will support the Cairns Young Animal Protection Society refuge, rescuing abandoned dogs and cats in the area, donating a dollar from every parmi sold – every Wednesday.

The ‘Welcome Weekend’ will be held Friday, 20 – Sunday 22 May, serving up a sports bar party Tradie Club BBQ, free Wagyu beef burgers, free meals and entertainment for kids, and of course, live music throughout the weekend.

“We’ve invested heavily in Dunwoody’s, because it’s a landmark pub and our community deserves the best experience when they go out with their family and friends,” explains AVC COO Craig Ellison.

The pub group prides itself on its portfolio of more than 180 unique and individual venues across Australia and New Zealand, actively taking an approach encouraging local leadership and tailoring venues to local community tastes.

The Salisbury, Mackay and Cairns communities were asked for feedback on what they ‘loved’ about the pubs – and what changes they wanted to see.

“This was all taken into account during the planning of the renovation as we wanted to ensure we were creating a pub for the locals,” furthered Ellison.
