Australian Venue Co has launched an innovative recruitment campaign across multiple states, looking for staff at all levels and offering incentives and hiring on the spot.
AVC is the second largest hospitality group in the country, and largest across Australia-New Zealand, boasting more than 200 venues*.
The group has fostered a reputation for ‘outside the square’ hiring initiatives and is now running a major recruitment drive it’s calling ‘The Great Pub Casting Call’ in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Wellington, NZ.
The Casting Calls offer to take the stress and time out of the standard job application process, encouraging those wanting to work in hospitality to drop by for a “casual chat” with the team.
There are said to be jobs available for all levels of experience, and the company cites access to training and development pathways.
Successful applicants will be hired on the spot, and can start earning money instantly by undertaking two hours of paid training on the same day. They will be further welcomed to the family with a $100 pub voucher, free pub lunch after the interview to meet their new team, and a gift bag with merch.
Employees are provided discounts across AVC/NZVC pubs, bars and restaurants, but additionally, successful applicants will be eligible for the new employee $1,000 Bonus Credit, on food and drinks.
Group CEO Paul Waterson explains the initiative is their way of getting newcomers rapidly immersed in the pub experience.
“We looked closely at our recruitment process to try and find out how we could move quicker to getting people on the ground.
“As an industry we are competing with retail and other employers of young people.
“We all know pubs are a lot more fun than working in a shop. The Casting Calls is about getting people to walk in and soak up the atmosphere, get trained on the spot and get a supported start in the great pub industry.”

- Melbourne – Imperial Hotel (2-8 Bourke Street) on 8, 18, 25 October and 8 November
- Perth – The Aviary (Level 1/140 William St) on 12 and 15 October
- Wellington – St Johns (5 Cable Street) on 15 October
- Sydney – The Loft (3 Lime Street) on 25, 29 October
