AUSTRALIAN DISTILLING TAKES TWO GIN AWARDS

Emerging craft gin label Australian Distilling Co. has taken home two Golds at the Tasting Australia Spirit Awards for 2020, solidifying its place in the growing gin market Down Under.

The Tasting Australia Spirit Awards are presented by Mastercask, aiming to recognise the rise of the Australian distilling industry and its rapid growth both nationally and worldwide. The Awards judge small and large distillers across Australia, categorising gins into: London Dry (200), New World/Contemporary (201), Old Tom (202), Navy (203), Barrel Aged (204), Fruit (205) and other (206).

This year took place in Adelaide, led by interim head judge and Tasting Australia director Nick Stock, alongside an all-South Australian panel, due to travel restrictions brought about by COVID-19.

2020 is the second year Australian Distilling Co. (ADCo) has entered the prestigious awards. Last year it claimed silver in the London Dry category for its Adelaide Gin.

This year Adelaide’s sibling gin brands – Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney – were also competing, in the New World/ Contemporary category.

On the weekend both Melbourne and Perth took home Gold, while Brisbane Gin claimed Bronze.

The clutch brings Australian Distilling Co.’s award tally for 2020 to an impressive 64 titles.

“This is a huge milestone for our brand, taking home two gold awards amongst some seriously strong competition,” beams ADCo founder, Michael Hickinbotham.

“We’re thrilled to receive these awards and see the growth of our brands. It’s a proud moment.”

ADCo reports it created the labels to capture the ‘essence’ of Australian cities, and says it actively works with local pubs to become part of their communities.

“To support our friends, we have started to hold tastings at pubs around Australia as the hospitality industry reopens, so that people get to experience and contrast the unique botanicals of each of our city gins.

“We have also undertaken masterclasses, degustation dinners paired with our gins, bar shouts as well as providing new staff training to our venues. The response from both the customers and the venues has been fantastic.”

ADCo flags new releases to be “announced very soon” in a busy end to a successful year for the boutique distiller.
