ANGLER’S TAVERN REELS IN THE CROWD FOR ITS GRAND REOPENING

The Anglers Tavern, on the Maribyrnong River Melbourne, will officially re-open Thursday (18 July) after almost two years closed following the October 2022 floods.

The much-loved local has been restored and redesigned after floods destroyed the lower floor and outdoor areas 21 months ago.

The design has been sympathetic to the pub’s boating roots, decorating in blues and warm toned woods.

The comfortable bistro areas are family friendly, with the casual lower bistro placed conveniently next to the Kids Quarters, a well-equipped outdoor play area with playground, bikes, scrabble wall, iPad station and more.

Quieter kids have not been forgotten with a dedicated kids’ reading room.

A sports bar will screen major sporting events, while level one has received a complete makeover into a flexible function space complete with two separate bars, kitchen and AV system.

Even the menu has been revamped, focusing on pub classics with a strong seafood presence, notably the Anglers Seafood Tower.

Dining options also include an $18 seniors menu.

While the Anglers Tavern opens to the public tomorrow, the venue will be holding a ‘Locals Launch Weekend’ on the first weekend of August, with free offerings such as live music, face painting, a butterfly enclosure, balloon artist, meat tray raffle and an “AFL handball competition with former Carlton legend & dual premiership captain Stephen ‘Sticks’ Kernahan”.

Regular weekly entertainment of live music, DJs and free kids’ entertainment is planned, along with Wednesday trivia where for every parma sold, $1 will go to Food Bank Victoria via the pubs’ Local Heroes program.

Christian Mendez, Venue Manager of Anglers said the local area had been kept in the forefront of their minds throughout the renovation process.

“The new light, bright and modernised feel has something for everyone, and we’re really excited to be able to welcome everyone back to it,” he said.
