A NEW ERA IN INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT: SPORTSPLUS

In what is being hailed as an evolution in immersive hospitality entertainment, the innovative new SportsPlus concept has opened its first instalment, within Canterbury Leagues Club.

SportsPlus is a groundbreaking fusion of hospitality with interactive, high-tech entertainment, looking to appeal to a variety of demographics, including both sports enthusiasts and those seeking a novel form of social engagement for date nights, family outings, work functions or parties.

It champions the potential to enhance overall guest satisfaction and loyalty within a venue, to increase spend on F&B and other services.

The company aims to transform underutilised spaces in venues, making it an option in a range of different locations or portfolios.

Opening the doors of its inaugural venture at Canterbury Leagues Club at the end of November, SportsPlus wants to “redefine guest experiences” with its innovation, of a blend of immersive simulated sports experiences and social engagement.

It introduces another dimension to leisure by combining state-of-the-art technology with the thrill of various sports, through seven simulated sports experiences, backdropped by live sport on screens throughout the venue.

Patrons compete against friends or family, in leagues or competitions, using advanced simulators to play Cricket, Baseball, Tennis, or Lacrosse, or race vehicles; play Social Darts using augmented reality, with automated scoring, six different game modes and video playback; and Golf, featuring Trackman-powered golf simulators, catering to various skill levels and offering diverse gameplay options. The Golf allows players to either bring their own clubs or borrow complimentary right- or left-handed clubs.

SportsPlus was co-founded by UK-born Mike Canty and Will Walker. They have built a franchise-style model underpinned by the company’s ‘always on’ sales and marketing team, dedicated to driving engagement.

The sports-plus venue is family-friendly, welcoming minors accompanied by an adult and complementing the Club’s existing amenities, which includes three restaurants and a cocktail bar.

Walker says the positive feedback from customers in the first two weeks has been “overwhelming” and gives them confidence in the offering and its future.

“We are thrilled by the amazing reception SportsPlus has received since its opening at Canterbury Leagues Club,” he told PubTIC.

“Looking ahead, we have exciting plans for further SportsPlus venues with club land and beyond, aiming to bring the unparalleled excitement of SportsPlus to even more communities across Australia.”
