The Bayfield family has disclosed plans to build a backyard on the roof of their newly-acquired Paddo pub, the Light Brigade.
Speaking to PubTIC, Bayfields Hotel Group general manager Kaine Bayfield says they are really keen to be the next instalment in the rooftop trend sweeping Sydney pubs.
“When we were looking at buying the hotel, as we were looking through the old Powder Room upstairs, we noticed the view.
“One level up, on the roof, you can see more of the city skyline and the Harbour bridge and even some of the harbour.”
Taking possession in the latter half of last year, the Group set about seeking approvals for the rooftop bar. Applications had been made previously, by previous owner Dean Haritos.
The original Powder Room in the art-deco building is the ante-room to the ladies toilets, and part of areas originally deemed not suitable for women-folk.
These areas, along with former upstairs accommodation and an outdoor terrace, will become Brigade Lounge – a new 1920s cocktail bar.
And on the roof, working is taking place to transform the disused space into a picturesque beergarden substitute that feels like your backyard.
“We want everyone to feel welcome, relaxed and at home,” says Bayfield.
“There will be lots of greenery around the perimeter.
“A ‘backyard’ feel … but without the clothes line.”
