NSW HOSPO INDUSTRY STEPS UP ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT AWARENESS

Over two hundred hospitality workers, members of the Sydney City Liquor Accord (SCLA), took part in a new program on sexual harassment, awareness and prevention designed specifically for the liquor industry.

The SCLA engaged workplace psychosocial safety training company Smart Culture to provide the training, which was held at The Establishment Hotel.

The training built on the NSW Government’s sexual harassment material in its RSA training, ensuring the participants received the most current face-to-face training.

Steven Speed, SCLA Chair and Fortune of War Hotel licensee said that it was important to be on top of standards and legal obligations in this area, which are constantly changing.

“We want to make members aware of what the guidelines are and what the boundaries are with practical face-to-face facilitation rather than seeing snippets on TV or reading it on a computer screen,” he said.

“We want them to know the ground rules and we want them to know how to deal with a complaint or incident when it happens.”

Participants, including the Australian Hotels Association NSW’s Sean Morrissey and Ivan Odonnel, and NSW Police Superintendent Marty Fileman, all highly endorsed the training.
