A local man struck gold at the Benowa Tavern, bagging a major Keno prize of more than $1.6 million.
A recent draw identified a Keno Classic 10 Spot entry as winner of $1,602,500, purchased at ALH’s Benowa Tavern, Benowa.
The search was then on for the mystery winner, as the player was not on the premises.
When the Gold Coast man heard the news, he headed straight back to the Tavern and was left ‘jumping for joy’ after the venue and an official from Keno confirmed his windfall.
“To think we left the pub before checking the jackpot draw! Not knowing the prize was ours just makes us laugh,” he says.
The new millionaire doesn’t think the money will change much beyond providing security for his family, but admits he’s now convinced of the special numbers he’s been using for years.
“We stuck with the same numbers our whole life and bingo! Here it is!
“We cannot wait to set up our family and do some overseas travel.”
The Benowa Tavern’s Sharon Fox notes that while the pub is no stranger to Keno wins, it is particularly special when a regular scores a major prize.
“Seeing one of our patrons win big with Keno is always fantastic and generates such a positive atmosphere in our venue that everyone feels like they’ve shared the win too.”
Keno is played in over 3,500 pubs and clubs in Victoria, Queensland, NSW and the ACT. Last year the company paid out wins collectively worth more than $1 billion, including crowning 21 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $51.5 million.
