Chris Morris’ CLG has revived the dormant heart of Julatten in northern Queensland, throwing open the doors to the new Julatten Hotel
The former Highlander Tavern fell victim to COVID pressures and closed, in 2020. It was purchased by Colonial Leisure Group (CLG) in 2022, with plans to modernise the local watering hole.
Julatten is a town of around 1,100 residents, found 90 kilometres north of Cairns. At the end of June it welcomed back its much-missed Hotel.
CLG has worked with a range of local suppliers on the revised menus. As well as the popular classics, including pizzas and steaks, there are house specialities such as the whole tiger prawn bucket, grilled local Barramundi fillets, and the Nashville Chicken burger or signature Julatten Beef burger.
The drinks list centres around a “huge range” of tap beers from CBCo, and the essential country town Happy Hour is back, every Wednesday to Friday from 4pm.
A major part of the new offering will be live music on weekends, set to host local acts every Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
CLG is the hospitality arm of Morris Group, and operates a suite of hotels in Victoria that includes Albert Park Hotel, Portsea Hotel, The Railway Club Hotel, Half Moon, O’Connell’s, The Vincent, and Lucky Coq.
Parent company Morris Group already operates a collection of hotels and luxury lodges in North Queensland, being The Ville Resort – Casino in Townsville, Orpheus Island Lodge, Daintree River Ecolodge and Mount Mulligan Lodge.
