THE SPORTING GLOBE KICKS OFF IN CHIRNSIDE PARK

Signature Group has unveiled its latest win for Victorian hospitality with the hugely anticipated opening of The Sporting Globe at Chirnside Park.

The latest The Sporting Globe (TSG) swung open the doors to punters on Friday (4 December), just in time for lunch.

This is the largest of the growing Victorian franchise, licensed for 742 people when at full capacity. Even with restrictions it will cater for 300, throughout the main bar, beer garden, adjacent pop-up marquee and reportedly “stunning” function rooms.

As to be expected, TSG Chirnside Park provides a wide range of draught beers, notably being the only place outside the brewery to serve local brew Matilda Bay Redback on tap.

Chirnside Park marks the second TSG for Melbourne’s outer east, after the launch last year of Westfield Knox at Wantirna South.

Chirnside Park is also just eight kilometres from Coldstream, where the Sinclair brothers grew up. This is the 17th TSG, and a partnership with Signature Group CEO James and his brother David, and their childhood friend Eloise Wallace, who grew up on the same street in Coldstream.

James is very happy to be back in the community where they grew up, in a “real family affair” venture.

“It’s fantastic to finally deliver this project after around four years of trials and tribulations!” he says.

With Christmas around the corner, the team are very pleased about yesterday’s announcement further easing pandemic restrictions in Victoria allowing one person per two square metres and heralding the return of vertical consumption, although the expanding group remain wary of the game ahead.

“We are still seeing pent-up demand from the lockdown, which is further fuelled by the heightened Christmas activity,” reports James.

“The result is a promising return of trade, particularly in suburban areas where many of our venues are located.

“Victorian venues have, however, started a long way back and the slow reopening, encouraging outdoor activations, has come at significant cost.

“As JobKeeper rolls off we are cautiously optimistic that this can be balanced with public and private investment and 2021 will deliver growth in sports entertainment and a strong demand for casual dining.”
