SYNDICATE PARTING WITH CASINO’S CECIL

Amid a flood of northern rivers transactions, a local syndicate has put to market Casino’s big Hotel Cecil – run under management for over four decades.

The prominent two-storey pub, with upstairs wraparound veranda, fronts main road Centre Street through town. It provides public bar with TAB, bistro, gaming room with 13 EGMs, a café area, onsite parking and a large drive-through bottleshop.

It resides on a 2,668sqm lot, and is licensed to 2:00am Friday nights and 1:30am Saturday.

A significant renovation is wrapping up, refreshing the interior and exterior and updating the gaming operation, which is full smoking compliant. The pub typically ranks over 600 on the L&G list of NSW hotels.

The upstairs accommodation has not been activated, and while it will need work, represents another potential revenue stream.

There is also a block of surplus land beyond the carpark that could be used for a complementary structure, or shop, or simply more parking.

Marketing literature reports more than $123k weekly sales, across bar, bistro and gaming.

Casino is a strong NSW regional town of around 12,500 people, approximately 60 kilometres west of Ballina, 76 from Byron Bay.

Amid increasing interest in the northern rivers region and pub market, exemplified by the Short-Laundy purchase of the Lennox Hotel for $40 million, the decision was made to divest the asset by the owners, including Mick Bulmer, who sold his Rous Hotel, Lismore, in 2019.

“Having been in the same local hands for around 45 years and run entirely under management, the pub has never had the fulltime love and care of an owner-operator,” notes Leonard Bongiovanni of Manenti Quinlan, marketing the property in conjunction with John Hannigan of John Hannigan Real Estate.

“The Hotel offers further scope for an astute operator to improve trade across all departments.”

The freehold going concern of Hotel Cecil is being sold via Expressions of Interest, closing Thursday, 7 October.
