A young man has been charged with grievous bodily harm after reportedly assaulting another man with a glass in a Gold Coast hotel over the weekend.
Police report that around 1am on Saturday (7 July) at the Coolangatta Hotel, a 34-year-old man is believed to have asked a woman dancing to stop bumping into him.
A 21-year-old man dancing with the woman then allegedly hit the other man in the side of the head with a glass, inflicting a 10-centimetre cut to his face and almost severing his ear. The two men were not known to each other.
The younger man attempted to flee, but was stopped by friends of the victim.
The injured man was transported to hospital, and doctors operated to attempt to save his ear.
The alleged assailant was charged with grievous bodily harm, and appeared before Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.
He pled guilty and was released on bail, to appear again on 26 July.
