LEWIS FIRES BACK AT LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Last weekend local legend The Fiddler presented $100k to local fire brigades, in the latest act of community support by operators Lewis Leisure.

The generous donation went to four local brigades, to help them recoup from the devastating bushfires of 2020, and ensure they are well-equipped for the coming year.

Cheques for $25,000 were presented to: Kellyville Fire and Emergency Public Fund, Rouse Hill Fire and Emergency Fund, Box Hill and Nelson Bush Fire Brigade, and Oakville Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.

The cheques mark the largest donation the pub has made to date, and new general manager Tara Bonser says local engagement is seen as a major priority for the group.

“Despite going through several ups and downs during the COVID period, they’re ensuring their community is still put first.”

In fact, community donations were quietly made to suitable causes in the vicinity of all the businesses of Lewis Land Group – including its hospitality arm, Lewis Leisure.

The Group also holds the title to the Belvedere Hotel, in Queensland’s Woody Point, which gave away $50k to its community.

Back in Sydney, north-west landmark the Camden Valley Inn also recently fronted $100k for its local fire brigade. The pub has long enjoyed a relationship with the team, who used to bring the fire truck in on Sundays, to the delight of many of the kids.

Lewis Leisure’s Brad Jenkins says the plan was put in place a year ago, after the calamitous summer of bushfires. Some of the funds have been raised in the pubs, with the owners matching and rounding above and beyond, to a quarter-million in total through the three operations alone.

After 12 months many would prefer to not remember, Jenkins believes the benefit has gone to the right place.

“They’re all good local blokes. I think the timing’s right too – everyone forgets after a year.”
