IRVIN TRANSFORMS TOWNSVILLE ICON SEAVIEW HOTEL

Irvin Hotels has completed a major overhaul of Townsville’s iconic seaside Seaview Hotel.

The local landmark was established in 1889, but the current building came in 1929 after the old timber Hotel was destroyed by fire.

Renovations began in January of 2020, just prior to the start of the pandemic, and were completed at the end of October 2021, at a total cost of $9 million.

The staged works allowed for trading through the project, which took a little longer than expected.

“Originally the scope of works was supposed to be 18 months, but building setbacks – not so much COVID – stretched it out a little,” explained Seaview GM Jason Schell.

While the oceanfront structure was in some need of TLC, the primary motivator was a reconfiguration to traditional.

“Our main goal apart from the facelift was to have only one bottleshop, instead of the two we had, and build a new gaming room so we could get the old front bar back as a bar.”
