The Hurley Group’s prized Arkaba Hotel has begun a massive multi-million-dollar refurb and redesign, for the first time in six decades.
The Fullarton pub, which opened in 1964, is one of Adelaide’s biggest and most iconic venues, hosting around 300 gigs each year. It has long been a go-to destination for South Australians for entertainment, accommodation and functions.
It is now undergoing its first major overhaul, investing circa $10 million for a new contemporary feel throughout the Hotel.
Behind the scenes, the kitchen will be relocated and the dutiful, original air-conditioning system will be replaced. Patrons will see refurbishment and updating of the bars and sound system at the hotel’s Top of the Ark space and function rooms, and a table service restaurant in the lounge area.
Sportys bar will boast a larger, undercover outdoor area with multiple screens and new seating layout, aiming to make it “the best sports bar is Australia!!”
Group matriarch Jenny Hurley says they are “so excited” to be revitalising their beloved Ark, bringing it new life while maintaining its unique and “irreplaceable” architectural integrity.
Hurley Hotel Group is inviting the public to be a part of the occasion by sharing memories of its 60 years in business, commemorating ‘unforgettable gigs’ or parties attended, or people met. Patrons are asked to upload photos or videos to The Arkaba’s social media, or deliver to the hotel’s reception.
Jenny says they anticipate completion mid-November, all going well.
“There’s a lot to be done before we finish!!”
