Popular St Kilda venue Post Office Club Hotel has pivoted once again, to the delight of its locals.
Over the past 153 years the pub, once known as the Buck’s Head Hotel, has seen a lot of changes. From a gangster haunt in the 1930s to French-inspired fine dining, it is now swinging back to catering for a broader demographic.
Legacy Hospitality Group’s Ben Avramides recognised the importance of assessing what was most desired in the area, but while it was relatively quick, the decision to return to the pub’s roots was not made lightly.
After taking over the lease in 2021, the venue was briefly a Latin American restaurant before transforming into a French-inspired fine dining bistro.
While Avramides enjoyed the restaurant, he found it to be too formal for the area, so the decision was made to honour the history of the pub and return to its former glory.
Now, the pub once again boasts locals’ nights, happy hours, Sunday roasts and daily pub grub specials.
The decision to pivot was a welcome one, and Avramides has found himself overwhelmed with the positive responses he received.
The many personal stories he heard confirmed the decision was the right move.
From barflies to families, tradies to younger people, the Post Office Club Hotel is once again a home for every local.
“It’s what we’ve always loved in hospitality, that ability to sit next to all different types of people and have that common enjoyment of a drink in a nice environment,” he told Delicious.
