A good Samaritan is in hospital after trying to intervene in an argument between a couple in Hornsby’s Railway Hotel.
A 54-year-old man was reported to have been arguing with his girlfriend around 7pm on Wednesday night (16 November) when a friend to the woman, a man aged 30, attempted to break up the dispute.
This resulted in an escalating argument between the two men, followed by the older man producing a knife and slashing the other man in the stomach.
Emergency services were called. The injured man was treated at the scene before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital; the alleged perpetrator was arrested by officers from Ku-ring-gai Local Area Command and taken to Hornsby Police Station.
He has since been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and common assault. He was refused bail and slated to appear before Hornsby Local Court yesterday.
The injured man remains in a stable condition in hospital and is expected to require surgery.
