Police have arrested a man after a brazen mid-morning robbery from a hotel in Cambridge Park.
At around 10:45am on 24 September, a man entered the gaming room of the Overlander Hotel Motel Cambridge Park, a Top-150 gaming pub, and stood near a Cash Redemption Terminal (CRT).
The man waited for the attendant to leave the area before allegedly swiping an access card and entering a PIN. He then removed the cash cartridge, placed it into a bag and left. The cartridge is thought to have held a considerable amount of money.
He was seen leaving the car park in a vehicle.
The manager noticed the CRT had been broken into and notified the police.
Police later identified a 35-year-old St Marys man as the offender. He is alleged to have been a past employee of the Overlander for a short time.
Police stopped and searched the man’s vehicle on Adelaide Street St Marys on 25 September, allegedly finding a sum of money in $50 notes.
After his arrest, police were granted a search warrant for his home, where officers allegedly located a safe containing a large sum of money in $50 notes.
The man will appear at Penrith Local Court on 31 October after being charged with ‘Larceny greater than $15,000’.
