A Melbourne pub is in the spotlight in video showing a security guard holding a teenager in a choke hold before carrying his limp body outside.
The footage, taken by patrons at the Dorset Gardens Hotel in Croydon on Saturday 14 September, appears to show a guard holding a man around the neck before he becomes unconscious and gets dragged out.
Management say the 18-year-old had been removed earlier for being too rowdy, but managed to scale a fence and get back into the venue. Security spotted him and attempted to usher him out again, but the young man broke free, allegedly running back to the bar and helping himself to a schooner before “playing cat and mouse” with security for another 45 minutes.
“He was escorted out first at 6pm, then jumped the fence into the beer garden, then decided to pour his own beers behind the bar,” Poloso told 9News, adding that the man “was alright” following the alleged incident.
Although originally conceding the incident could have been handled better, management has now gone further to sack the guard involved.
A woman who says she saw the incident reported to 7News the teenager was dragged into the carpark, where the guard then punched him in the face so hard she felt compelled to call 000.
“Police are investigating, following a reported assault at a licensed premise in Croydon on 14 November,” says a statement from Victoria Police.
“Investigators have been told a male was ejected from the Dorset Road premises before returning a short time later.
“An altercation occurred between the man and security before he was ejected a second time.”
