ALH’S ESPLANADE HOTEL CLOSES FOR $11M TRANSFORMATION

The Esplanade Hotel in Brighton, South Australia, operated by the country’s biggest publican, Australian Leisure and Hospitality, has recently begun a major renovation.

ALH operates 350 venues Australia-wide, and has closed the Esplanade, known as the Espy, for what is slated to be around eleven months while the pub is modernised. It aims to re-open in time for summer next year.

The revitalisation will be one of the group’s biggest projects to date in the state and is set to capitalise on the hotel’s prominent position, at the corner of The Esplanade and Jetty Road.

While the ALH is keeping the finer details of the renovations under wraps, group managing director Paul Carew says the works are valued at around $11 million.

“The project marks an exciting new chapter for the iconic coastal venue, as it continues to evolve while maintaining the character and community spirit locals know and love.”

Last drinks were called on 12 October, following a week-long celebration of The Espy by locals, concluding with its popular Sunday roast.

The group is retaining the venue’s staff, relocating them to other ALH venues until the reopening.

Experts suggest that the refurbishment is likely to include improved accessibility, redesigned outdoor areas to maximise the venue’s ocean frontage, and enhancements to the functionality and flow of the main bar and dining spaces.

Official details on the redevelopment will be shared closer to its reopening.
