Coogee Bay Hotel brought the hospitality industry together for its 29th Annual Charity Golf Day again last month, raising more than $400k for Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) and adding another milestone to a fundraising legacy spanning three decades.
The annual event has become a major fixture on the Hotel’s calendar, uniting industry partners, sponsors and supporters to help improve outcomes for sick children and their families.
The Hotel’s philanthropic journey began in 1993 with POWCH Day, when $1 from every schooner sold was donated to the Prince of Wales Children’s Hospital. The Charity Golf Day began four years later in 1997, establishing a fundraising tradition that has continued to grow.
In 2019, the 22nd event raised $214,050, taking cumulative contributions beyond $3.1 million. By 2023, the annual total had reached a record $267,000, bringing the overall contribution to more than $3.86 million.
The Hotel achieved another major milestone in 2024, raising $325,000 and fulfilling its five-year, $1 million commitment to SCHF – a year ahead of schedule. The commitment supported the Parent and Carers Retreat at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.
This year’s fundraising will contribute toward a new $1 million, five-year commitment to the Hospital’s Base of Skull Service. The specialised service treats children with complex conditions affecting the skull base, bringing together clinicians across nine specialties to provide coordinated care.

Coogee Bay Hotel MD Christopher Cheung said the continued generosity of the hospitality community remained central to the event’s success.
“Now in its 29th year, the Golf Day remains one of the highlights of our calendar and is only possible because of the incredible generosity of our partners, sponsors and supporters who continue to get behind it year after year.
“We’re proud to continue our longstanding partnership with Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation and to support Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, helping children and families access the specialist care they need.”
The Hotel’s community contribution also received national recognition in 2025, when it was awarded Outstanding Community Service and Achievement at the AHA National Awards for Excellence, acknowledging its broader commitment to supporting local organisations and community initiatives.
SCHF Director of Partnerships Rhiahne Ralph said the partnership demonstrated the difference businesses could make by bringing communities together.
“Coogee Bay Hotel has been a long-standing partner of SCHF, bringing its community together year after year to make an incredible difference for sick kids and their families.
“Raising more than $400,000 is an extraordinary achievement and reflects the generosity of the Hotel, its partners, sponsors and everyone who continues to get behind the Golf Day.
“That support is helping ensure children and families can access world-class treatment and care when they need it most. We’re so grateful to everyone involved for continuing to stand alongside Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation and sick kids.”
With almost three decades of Charity Golf Days behind it, Coogee Bay Hotel continues to demonstrate the impact of a hospitality community united behind a shared purpose.
