LOCALS TO DECIDE HERITAGE PUB’S FUTURE IDENTITY

Award-winning hospitality stalwart Ghanem Group has taken a novel approach to making its mark on the recent acquisition of famous South Brisbane venue The Fox.

Calling on members of the public who have been part of the history of the venue, the Group has put the offer out to “shape its future identity” by voting for a new name while it undergoes renovation.

Options include remaining as The Fox, returning to its original name, or offering something completely different.

The heritage-listed hotel, located in the centre of Fish Lane, was initially named the Terminus Hotel in recognition of its original construction in the late 1880s, marking the end of a tram route.

Since becoming a pub in 1927, the venue has undergone six name changes, with the switch to The Fox coming in the 1990s.

The family-owned group, founded by brothers Adonis and Nehme Ghanem, has commissioned a full redesign and fit-out of the interior, respecting the building’s legacy and conserving representative features over its four levels.

The Fox is the latest to join Ghanem Group’s growing portfolio of first-class dining establishments across Queensland and Victoria.

Director Adonis Ghanem is excited about involving the public in the change.

“We really just wanted to have some fun with it and hear directly from the people who’ve made the venue what it is,” he told PubTIC.

“It’s such an iconic part of Brisbane – it felt right to invite the community to help shape the next chapter by having their say on the name.”
