$30M TOWNSVILLE WATERFRONT ICON UNVEILED

After a year of development, a landmark precinct will be unveiled 11 December at the historic Flinders Street Wharves in Townsville.

The NEW $30 million city-shaping precinct, a multi-level hospitality and entertainment destination, will be housed in the former Burns Philp & Co building, Townsville’s last surviving 19th century warehouse complex.

The 1895 building will offer six unique spaces catering to locals and tourists alike, including the first floating pontoon bar, The Docks.

The Docks also offers a Mediterranean menu inspired by North Queensland’s quality seafood.

Other spaces include The Kiosk, a casual eatery offering all-day coffee; the outdoor Beer Garden; The Bistro, which will offer all the pub favourites; the heritage-inspired Merchants Bar, boasting 108 beer taps; and The Dining Room, an elevated dining experience for up to sixteen guests.

On the second floor The Rooftop will offer panoramic views and live entertainment.

The half-acre site will blend Townsville’s laid-back tropical lifestyle with elevated experiences for up to 1,000 guests.

Also onsite will be two pontoons operated by Poseidon Adventures, a local boat and jet ski tourism business that offers river trips and tours to Cape Cleveland and Magnetic Island, helping the precinct to become a destination both day and night and connecting the mainland to tourism hotspots.

Construction began in September last year, headed by leading Queensland Architecture and Interior Design Studio, KP Architects.

The design was a careful reflection of both Townsville’s lifestyle and the heritage of the Burns Philp & Co building, which has kept many original features.

Developed and co-owned by Grant Morgan, general manager, and Andrew Hooper-Nguyen, a developer with a background in company management and investment banking, the pair are proud of their new and exciting Townsville destination.

“Our role here at Flinders Street Wharves is to create a sense of place for the people of Townsville. For years, our city centre has longed for renewal, and now, this vibrant precinct has been delivered back to the locals as a destination to catch up, connect, and celebrate,” said Morgan.

The precinct will create 120 local jobs, and in its first year expects to attract over 350,000 guests. This will inject an estimated $6 million into the local economy.

Flinders Street Wharves will open seven days a week, from 6am to midnight Sunday to Thursday, and 6am to 2am Fridays and Saturdays.
