Adelaide’s 145-year-old West Thebarton Hotel has until July to close, destined for demolition as part of the North-South Corridor upgrade.
The River Torrens to Darlington Project (T2D) designs mean the land the heritage-listed pub occupies will be cleared to make way for the northern tunnels.
According to the Mitcham Council website, the T2D is the State’s largest infrastructure project to date, due for completion by 2031.
The T2D “is the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, and will complete 78 kilometres of non-stop, traffic light-free motorway between Gawler and Old Noarlunga,” the website states.

Lawyers for Publican Reserve Hotels were advised the site would be needed from July this year, according to Transport Minister spokesman Tom Koutsantonis.
While the hotel’s kitchen closed toward the end of last year, it is unclear if the pub will continue to operate until July or close sooner.
The West Theburton Hotel was built in the 1880s and refurbished around 65 years later. In the 1990s it was awarded its heritage status.
At least two other local businesses have permanently closed their doors as a result of the T2D land acquisitions.
The pub remains tight-lipped about the closure.
