Mitchell Waugh’s Public House Management Group will tomorrow re-launch the Buena, Mosman cornerstone, bringing pub gastronomy to the elite foreshore ‘burb.

PHMG burst into prominence in May last year when it purchased the Buena Vista Hotel from the Halcyon Group for almost $16 million. The newly-founded Group, backed by the Waugh family, has gone on to purchase several more big-ticket pubs, including three in Paddington.

A partnership has also been forged with acclaimed chef Guillaume Brahimi, who is guiding the Group’s menus and manning gastro pub royalty, Bistro Moncur, in the Woollahra Hotel.

Tomorrow (29 September) the street-level Buena Bar and upstairs Vista Bar will herald the introduction of a revitalised 1901-built ‘The Buena’ to the well-to-do suburb. Mosman has surprisingly few pubs, and the hotel is virtually the definition of irreplaceable.

“We recognise the historically broad appeal of the Buena and like to think that in this renovation we have something for everyone, from families and sport fanatics to groups looking for afternoons and evenings of entertainment, The Buena will cater for the entire community,” said PHMG director, Mitchell Waugh.

“Our Group Mixologist, Kurtis Bosley has created a dynamic list of cocktails and share drinks whilst Guillaume Brahimi and PHMG executive chef Ben Varela have worked on our ‘food story’ with an aim to bring exciting new dining experiences to Mosman.

“We are very happy to be settling in and hope that our Mosman neighbours will welcome us with open arms.”

Mosman Moncur will reportedly open in two to three weeks, introducing the acclaimed brand to Sydney’s north shore.
