DIXON’S STATION HOTEL CLOSED DUE TO FIRE

Dixon Group’s gastro pub in Footscray has closed for repairs following a fire that destroyed the kitchen on Monday.

Melbourne’s Metropolitan Fire Brigade report being called around noon to a fire that had broken out in the kitchen, while the chef was preparing lunch service.

“It appears the chef was cooking at the time and the flue caught fire in the kitchen,” said a spokesperson.

The chef was the only person in the hotel, and escaped without injury.

Fire crews using four appliances took half an hour to bring the fire under control. The worst damage was in the kitchen, but the apartments above and roof area sustained smoke damage.

According to a recorded message, the hotel is now closed “for the next few weeks” as clean-up and repairs are carried out.

Dixon Hospitality Group bought the Station Hotel in late 2014. It has previously won awards for its foodservice and continues to be a drawcard for Melbourne foodies.
