CENTRAL TOWERS TO GO ABOVE HERITAGE AUSTRALIAN HOTEL

Developers Frasers Property and Seksui House are set to proceed with the next stage of the Central Park on Broadway project – on the old Carlton Brewery site, atop the historic Australian “Abercrombie” Hotel.

Having purchased the site in 2007, Frasers has undertaken massive development with the striking and innovative Central complex. It later sold part of the site to Greencliff, which is about to open the rebranded Clare Hotel as the boutique Old Clare Hotel.

Stage two sees Frasers building a 15-storeys above the heritage-listed Australian Hotel, more recently known as the Abercrombie. The twin tower construction will include 282 hotel rooms, 48 apartments, office and retail space, on the corner of Abercrombie and Broadway.

A spokesperson for the Department of Planning said the project would bring “more life and more opportunities” for the area, creating 500 jobs during construction and 700 thereon.

“The Australian Hotel and Abercrombie Street terraces will be refurbished, reviving these key features of the precinct’s identity.”
